As new skippers, the best thing you can do now is sail! Time on boats getting practical hands-on experience is the best way to continue learning while developing a sense of wind, weather, and sea. This experience results in the circumspection and judgement that together make up that quality we call "seamanship." When Sail Chicago skippers sign the "Keelboat Skipper Personal Statement" we acknowledge that achieving skipper status doesn't mean that we're great sailors—it means we promise to continue learning and growing.
